Patients with health insurance will now stop the tendency to recover arbitrary money in the name of treatment. The government is going to take big steps in this direction. According to the CNBC report, the government has planned to bring the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) under the Finance Ministry and Insurance Regulator IRDAI. Its purpose is to ensure that the hospital does not exaggerate the cost of treatment, so that insurance companies do not have to increase the premium and reduce the financial burden on the common people.
The government believes that this step will give insurance companies power to bargain at the rates of treatment and patients will get relief. According to the report, for this, the Finance Ministry has also sent a letter to the Ministry of Health, in which it has been recommended to build an independent regulatory body for the healthcare sector.
The arbitrariness of hospitals will be controlled
An analysis of the government and the Insurance Regulator IRDAI has revealed that hospitals are charging more money in the name of treatment from patients. Especially from patients who have a big insurance cover. A government source recently said that due to this insurance companies are increasing the premium of health insurance. This has made it difficult for the common people to take insurance. Many people are not able to renew the policy anymore. According to a report by Professional Services firm Aon, healthcare costs in India can increase by 13% in 2025, which is more than 10% of the global average. Last year, this figure was 12%. That is, due to the arbitrariness of hospitals, the cost of treatment is increasing, which the common man is suffering.
What will be the benefit of NHCX?
The government believes that by further regulating the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), the strength of insurance companies will increase. This platform acts like a link between insurance companies, hospitals and patients. This will help in fixing the rates of treatment. Currently, this platform is looked after by the National Health Authority of the Ministry of Health. It was made with the advice of IRDAI, but IRDAI does not regulate it. However, it regulates insurance companies. Now there is a preparation to bring it under the Finance Ministry and IRDAI, so that more transparency can be brought on the cost of treatment.
People upset due to increasing premium
According to industry data, the increase in the income of health insurance premium in 2024-25 has come down to 9%, while it was more than 20% a year ago. The big reason for this is that the price of premium has increased so much that people are now shying away from taking insurance. Many people are not able to renew policy. The new plan of the government is a big step towards solving this problem. Due to strict monitoring of NHCX, insurance companies will be able to make better bargains with hospitals, which will keep the treatment rates under control.
