Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has now entered the new era of the country’s industrial revolution. A historic change has been made regarding the functioning of factories in the state. The President has assent to the ‘Factories (Uttar Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2024’, which has now become Uttar Pradesh Act No. 14, 2025. Under this law, a new work model of 12 hours work and 3 days leave has been implemented for factory employees.

The state government claims that this new law will not only increase the production capacity of the state but employment opportunities will also increase rapidly. Industrial investment will be encouraged and the economy of Uttar Pradesh will get a new impetus. Experts believe that this change can take the state towards the top industrial hub of the country.

Women allowed to work in night shift

The most important thing about this Act is that now women will also be allowed to work in night shifts. However, for this their written consent will be required and the factory management will have to make adequate security arrangements for them. The government says this step will increase women’s participation and empower the ‘Women Industrial Workforce’.

New law comes into effect from 3 October 2025

According to the information, this amended Act has become effective from 3 October 2025. Now the state government has the right to fix the daily working time in factories up to 12 hours. However, the weekly working period cannot exceed 48 hours. If an employee works more than this, he or she will receive additional pay under overtime rules.

Overtime paid at double rate

According to the law, if the employee has written consent, he can work continuously for 6 hours without any break. For work exceeding the prescribed limit, overtime will be paid at double the rate of ordinary wages. This provision gives more flexible labor options to industries while protecting the interests of employees.

Industry and employment will be affected

Industrial analysts say that this law will bring the effect of ‘4-day-workweek’ model in Uttar Pradesh. While employees will get more rest days, companies will be able to increase production capacity through longer shifts. With this, Uttar Pradesh can now become an even more attractive destination for foreign investors and new factories.
