Novak Djokovic Creates History, Breaks Roger Federer Record; Becomes First Player In The World To Epic Feat

Novak Djokovic is yet to play his best tennis at the US Open 2025, but he’s had no difficulty in progressing to the fourth round. He defeated Learner Tien in the first round before beating Zachary Svajda in the next game.

He was expected to dominate both games, but was tested by the next-gen players, with Svajda even taking a set off him.

wasn’t at his dominant best against Cameron Norrie either, but registered a comprehensive 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3 win in the third round to keep his 25th Grand Slam hopes alive.

The win also helped Djokovic etch his name in the record books and shatter a massive record previously held by the veteran Roger Federer.

The win over Norrie was Djokovic’s 192nd win at hard court Grand Slams, and he surpassed Federer, who won 191 Grand Slam matches at the hard court. For the unversed, the US Open and Australian Open are two Grand Slams played on hard courts. The US Open has been played on hard courts since 1978, and the Australian Open joined them in 1988.

Djokovic also levelled with Roger Federer in the list of most fourth-round appearances at Grand Slams for a man in the Open Era.

Rafael Nadal 54

Djokovic is chasing his 25th Grand Slam, but most pundits have written him off, saying it will be tough to win a Grand Slam with Jannik Sinner and around. This has somewhat proven true in Grand Slams this year as Jannik Sinner decimated the legend in the semifinals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon – that too in straight sets. Djokovic’s last Grand Slam title was the US Open in 2023, and he also played the Wimbledon final in 2024 but lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
