Novak Djokovic created history and set a huge world record, which was held by Roger Federer for a long time, after reaching the quarter-finals of the 2026 Wimbledon by beating Russia’s Roman Safiullin on Sunday (July 5) at the iconic Centre Court of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
The Serbian won the clash in four sets by a margin of 7-6, 6-3, 3-6, and 6-3, which is the 106th victory in the year’s only grass court major.
The Serbian bounced back from a breakdown in the first set and even saved a set point to seal a tie-break victory. He won the second set with ease before losing the third set. However, the seven-time Wimbledon winner stated bounced back strongly.
Novak Djokovic Creates History
Djokovic’s tally of 106 wins at Wimbledon is the most in history. He went past Federer in the elite, who won 105 matches at SW5 over the course of his career. No other player has won more than 100 games in the oldest Grand Slam in the world. Jimmy Connors is a distant third on the elite list.
