Novak Djokovic braces for yet another landmark: 99 is good, but 100 is better

The legendary Novak Djokovic is on the verge of reaching another significant milestone in his illustrious career. The 38-year-old Serbian star is just one win away from recording 100 victories at the French Open.

On Saturday, May 31, in the third round of the men’s singles at Court Philippe-Chatrier, notching his 99th win at Roland Garros.

With this win, Djokovic has also matched his tally of 99 victories at the Australian Open – the most he has at any Grand Slam. He now has the opportunity to become only the second player, after Rafael Nadal, to achieve 100 or more wins at the French Open.

Chasing his 25th Grand Slam singles title, Djokovic acknowledged this phase of his career, saying he’s at a point where setting records has become a regular occurrence.

“99 is good, but 100 is better. I hope I’ll get more. I’m at a time in my career, in my life when I feel privileged, because everytime I step out on court, I’m playing for history books. So, it’s incredible. This sport has given me everything that I have in my life,” Djokovic said.

Love, respect and emotions

Djokovic will have the chance to reach the 100-win milestone when he faces Cameron Norrie, who caused an early upset by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the first round.

“So, continuing to play in front of you all is my way of showing love and respect for the sport, and allowing you to experience all the emotions that I’ve experienced over the last 30 years,” Djokovic added.

Last month, Djokovic won the Geneva Open and became the third player in history to win 100 ATP titles after Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Djokovic has returned to form after four first-round exits earlier this year.
