New Delhi: Novak Djokovic achieved another landmark in his illustrious career at the Australian Open 2026 on Saturday, January 24. He became the first player to secure 400 match victories at the majors.
The 38-year-old Serbian achi the milestone with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory against the Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp, further extending his lead at the top of the all-time list.
Djokovic now has 31 more wins than Roger Federer, who is in the second position with 369 major match victories. In the match, Djokovic eased to a 5-3 lead before firing a backhand crosscourt winner to clinch the opening.
He struggled a bit after that point, but dominated the proceedings again as he broke in the opening game of the second set when Van de Zandschulp fired his backhand long. The Serbian lost his cool after taking a 4-2 lead, firing a ball that flew close to a ball kid standing near the net, but avoided a code violation.
Leading by two sets, the 38-year-old had a treatment for a blister on his foot after a tumble in the third set and then rallied from a break down to hold his nerve in the tiebreak qualify for the fourth round.
Djokovic equals Federer’s record
With this victory, Djokovic equalled Federer’s record of 102 victories in the Australian Open 2026, and will have an opportunity to reach at the top of the list when he takes on either Jakub Mensik or Ethan Quinn in the fourth round.

Stan Wawrinka bids farewell to Australian Open after losing against Taylor Fritz
Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka was knocked out of his final Australian Open after losing 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 against the American Taylor Fritz. The 40-year-old, who clinched the Australian Open title in 2014 before adding more trophies at the French Open and the U.S. Open, had announced earlier that 2026 would be his farewell season.
After defeating Laslo Djere in his opening match and edging a five-set marathon against Arthur Gea in the second round, Wawrinka gave another tough fight but ran out of gas against the American on the John Cain Arena.
