Cold season has started and the risk of catching cold increases in this season. A cold is generally considered a mild infectious condition of the nose and throat. It causes problems like runny nose, blocked nose, frequent sneezing and throat irritation. Cold usually gets cured in a few days, but during this time the problem of swelling and blockage in the nose bothers the most.
Cold It does not cause direct harm to the body, but its symptoms affect the daily routine of the person. Due to cold, there is difficulty in breathing through the nose, one has to wipe the nose again and again and there is pain or soreness in the throat. Due to continuous sneezing, one feels tired and the head starts feeling heavy. Due to increasing swelling inside the nose, the nasal tubes become narrow, due to which the nose feels blocked. Apart from this, cough, watery eyes, hoarse voice and loss of taste also appear as symptoms. Children, elderly and people with weak immunity face more problems during cold.
What are the causes of cold?
Dr. Subhash Giri in the Department of Medicine at RML Hospital It is said that the main cause of cold is virus. These viruses spread through air or by coming in contact with a person who has a cold. Cold weather dries out the surface of the nose, causing viruses to stick quickly and infection to begin. Going out in cold air, not wearing warm enough clothes and drinking too much cold beverages also increases the risk of cold.
Cold can also occur when a person repeatedly puts his hands on the mouth, nose or eyes and the hands are not clean. Viruses survive longer when there is less humidity, hence colds spread more in winter. The risk of infection is higher in crowded places, such as markets, buses, schools or offices, because viruses move more easily in the air.
