New Delhi: Following the alleged killing of a woman from Greater Noida, the police arrested the victim’s mother-in-law, Dayawati, on Sunday. Earlier, Nikki’s husband Vipin Bhati were also arrested for allegedly burning his wife for dowry at their Noida home. The police shot him in the legs, when he tried to escape from custody on Sunday. The accused was then sent to 14-day judicial custody after an order issued by the court.
While in custody, Vipin repeatedly claimed he was innocent and showed no remorse. “I have no remorse. I haven’t killed her. She died on her own. When asked about the allegations of assaulting Nikki, he repeated, “Husband and wife often have fights; it is very common.”
Victim’s father demands justice
While conducting an enquiry, the police found out that Vipin’s mother Dayawati played a major role in the alleged killing of Nikki(28). It is believed that Dayawati brought the inflammable substance to Vipin. She instigated her son to kill Nikki and is an accomplice to her son. Dayawati had been absconding since Nikki’s murder.
The victim’s father Bhikhari Singh Pyala claimed that Dayawati planned the entire murder and provoked Vipin to kill his wife. Instead of showing her son the right path, Dayawati incited him to commit murder. We should get justice, both should be hanged. He said that if strict action is not taken against the accused, he will go on a hunger strike.
Women’s commission took cognizance
National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has taken suo motu cognizance and has directed strict action against all the accused. She has sent a letter to the DGP of Uttar Pradesh and has directed the arrest of all the accused and strict action under the law. Along with this, the Commission has also asked to ensure the safety of the victim’s family and witnesses.
Earlier, a video clip capturing the victim’s husband and her mother-in-law pulling her by her hair and beating her went viral on several social media platforms. In another video, the victim is sitting on the floor with severe injuries to her body.
