Noida Airport comes under CISF security; over 1,000 personnel to be deployed

Noida: The Noida International Airport at Jewar has formally come under the security oversight of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the Delhi-NCR region prepares for the inauguration of its second aviation hub on October 30. The move marks a significant step in ensuring that India’s newest greenfield airport operates with robust safety and security from the outset.

In the initial phase, 1,047 CISF personnel will be deployed under a chief aerodrome security officer (CASO), creating a layered security structure across the sprawling facility. On the first day, 120 officers were inducted, with additional deployments planned in line with increasing passenger traffic and flight operations.

With this induction, Noida International Airport becomes the 70th civil airport in India to operate under CISF protection.

Security arrangements at Noida International Airport

Security management will be overseen by the Aviation Security Group (ASG) and the Airport Sector (APS) of the force, encompassing perimeter and access control, passenger and baggage screening, and landside safety measures. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be stationed on-site to handle emergencies, coordinating closely with local police and other law enforcement agencies.

Officials emphasised that multiple layers of security, aligned with international best practices, will safeguard passengers, crew, and critical airport assets.

Designated by the IATA code DXN, Noida International Airport is India’s first net-zero emissions airport. It has been engineered to eventually accommodate up to 70 million passengers annually, reflecting a focus on both sustainability and scalability. The airport recently received security clearance for its airside infrastructure from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on September 15, while the aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is still awaited.

PM Modi to inaugurate NIA on October 30; flight operations to commence soon

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the airport on October 30, with commercial operations expected to commence within 45 days. Initially, direct flights will connect Noida International Airport to at least 10 major cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.

Operator Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL) stated that most aeronautical infrastructure is complete, with final installations ongoing. Security arrangements combine CISF deployment with advanced technologies, including AI-enabled CCTV systems, Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS), and a centralised operations centre.
