No Suryakumar, Samson and Bumrah feature as ICC reveals T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament

New Delhi: Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav failed to make the cut as ICC revealed the T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament on Monday, March 09. Suryakumar-led India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in a lop-sided final to lift their second successive title, however, the skipper couldn’t find a spot in the star-studded team.

Four Indian players, including Player of the Tournament, Sanju Samson, feature in the ICC Team of the Tournament. Samson finished the tournament as the highest run-getter for India despite playing only five matches for his team. The opening batter had played only one game in the group stage before being called upon following India’s crushing defeat in the Super Eight stage.

Samson went on to hammer three half-centuries in a row, including two brilliant knocks of 89 apiece in the semifinal and the final to finish the tournament with an impressive 321 runs in five innings at an excellent average of 80.25 and a strike rate close to 200. Samson’s red-hot run was one of the biggest reasons behind India’s success in the tournament.

Ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, star all-rounder Haridk Pandya and explosive batter Ishan Kishan are the other Indians to make the cut in ICC’s Team of the Tournament. The team was picked by a team of broadcasters – Ian Bishop, Natalie Germanos, Eoin Morgan, ICC representative Gaurav Saxena and sports journalist Rex Clementine.

Bumrah was arguably India’s second-best player in the tournament after Samson. The pacer consistently produced good performances for the team, including a brilliant spell in the final, where he picked up a four-wicket haul. Bumrah finished the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets from 8 matches at an economy of 6.21.

Hardik made the cut based on his all-round contributions. He scored 217 runs at a strike rate of over 160 and picked up 9 wickets in nine matches in the tournament. Kishan also enjoyed a terrific campaign, smashing 317 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 193.29 to finish as the second-highest run-getter for India.

Aiden Markram leads ICC’s T20 World Cup 2026 team of the tournament

The jury has picked South Africa skipper Aiden Markram to lead ICC’s team of the tournament. South Africa enjoyed a stellar run under Markram before losing against New Zealand in the semifinals. The Proteas skipper also led from the front with the bat, with 286 runs in 8 matches.

Sahibzada Farhan, the leading run-getter of the tournament, was the only Pakistan player to make the cut in the side. Markram was joined by pacer Lungi Ngidi from South Africa, while Will Jacks and Adil Rashid were the two England players to make the cut. Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani was also rewarded with a spot for his heroics in the T20 World Cup 2026.

All-rounder Jason Holder was the only West Indies player to feature in the star-studded line-up. USA pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk, who finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets, was named the 12th man in the team of the tournament.
