New Delhi: MS Dhoni is all set to continue playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Contrary to the reports that the legendary wicket-keeper batter is considering hanging up his boots before the next season, Dhoni is reportedly set to return for the Men in Yellow. However, he might not play all the matches next season.
Dhoni, who will be turning 45 this year, is in the final lap of his career but continues to remain a vital cog in the CSK line-up, thanks to his leadership qualities, unmatched finishing pedigree and quick reflexes behind the stumps. Despite his waning prowess, CSK have held on to their former captain.
The most successful captain in IPL history, Dhoni led CSK in the second half of IPL 2025 after an injury to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. But much like every other season in the past few years, the question regarding Dhoni’s future continues to dominate headlines ahead of the IPL. On Sunday, reports went viral that the CSK legend might retire ahead of the new season.
However, as per a report in PTI, Dhoni will play in IPL 2026. A franchise source revealed the former captain has already confirmed his availability for IPL 2026 and will soon arrive in Chennai for the team’s pre-season camp. However, the source refused to confirm if Dhoni will play all matches for the franchise in IPL 2026.
“We can confirm this much that he is coming to Chennai and had confirmed his availability for the season,” a top CSK source was quoted as saying by PTI on condition of anonymity.
“Whether he will play all games or not is something we can’t say at the moment,” the source added.
