“No Pressure”: Priyansh Arya Staying Grounded in DPL 2025 After Stellar IPL Run with Punjab Kings

Priyansh Arya, the young Delhi-born left-handed batter set the stage ablaze with his fearless strokeplay for Punjab Kings, was a one of the most promising players in IPL 2025.

After lighting up IPL with a standout debut season, the young Delhi batter returns to his roots in the Delhi Premier League 2025 – but this time, with a lot more eyes on him.

Despite the heightened expectations, the 24-year-old – who is the most expensive player (Rs 21 lakh) for the new DPL franchise Outer Delhi Warriors – insists he’s not burdened by pressure and is instead focused on growth, team bonding, and enjoying the game that catapulted him to national attention.

Breakout Debut Seasons: From DPL to IPL

Priyansh Arya’s name began echoing through Delhi’s cricketing circles during the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he emerged as Delhi’s top scorer with 222 runs in seven matches at a remarkable strike rate of 166.91. But it was the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) in 2024 that garnered the attention of IPL scouts.

Representing South Delhi Superstars, Arya hammered 576 runs in just eight innings, including a match-winning 120 off 50 balls against North Delhi Strikers, where he stunned everyone by hitting six sixes in a single over off spinner Manan Bharadwaj.

Speaking about that over to myKhel, Arya admitted, “I hadn’t thought about it before. It just happened in the moment.”

IPL 2025: A Debut Season to Remember

Picked by Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer and coached by Ricky Ponting, Arya thrived under a management that backed his natural game. He scored 475 runs in 17 matches at a blistering strike rate of 179.24, including one century against Chennai Super Kings and two half-centuries. His performances and blistering starts with opener Prabhsimran Singh were crucial in taking Punjab Kings to the IPL final, where they finished runners-up to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

“The preparation was very simple,” said Arya when asked about his thought process in his debut season in the biggest T20 tournament on the planent. “Do what you know, what you’ve done so far. Back yourself. That’s it,” was the message from the captain and coach.

Coach Ricky Ponting’s advice? “Play on instinct. Don’t overthink,” Arya revealed.

DPL 2.0: Returning as a Star

As he gears up for the second edition of the DPL, this time with a new team, the Delhi-born cricketer knows the expectations are higher. No longer an unknown quantity, even at 25, he enters the season as a senior pro. But his mindset remains grounded.

“I want to do better than last year – both for personal growth and the team’s progress,” Arya added further. “Team bonding is very important. Cricket is not an individual game.”

Despite the fame and responsibility, he believes the burden is shared. “Everyone has the same responsibility – to win games for the team.”
