The recent checks by Air India were conducted after India’s civil aviation regulator issued a directive advising the checks of all fuel control switches (FCS). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 14 had directed all Indian airlines to carry out inspections of the FCS on all the Boeing planes operational in India.

The checks are in respect to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AIIB) report into the crash of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad. The initial report said that the fuel cutoff switches for both engines were moved to the cutoff position, one after another, within seconds, which led to a loss of thrust, and the plane couldn’t lift off.
