While the nation is gearing up for Christmas and New Year celebrations, the BJP leadership has issued a strict directive to its front-line leaders.
There will be no vacations this season for BJP MPs, MLAs, and officials; instead, they have been tasked with conducting large-scale public outreach to promote the newly enacted ‘Ji Ram Ji’ law.
In the recently concluded winter session of Parliament, the Modi government passed the ‘VB Ji Ram Ji’ bill, amending the existing MGNREGA scheme. The new law increases the guaranteed work period from 100 days to 125 days. Following President Droupadi Murmu’s assent, the party now wants its representatives to visit every household in rural and urban areas to explain the benefits of this ambitious project.
The move comes as opposition parties like Congress and TMC launch a counter-campaign against the act. Interestingly, some internal concerns have also surfaced in BJP-ruled states like Assam and Rajasthan, where leaders are questioning the feasibility of providing 125 days of work. Consequently, the BJP representatives now face the dual challenge of silencing the opposition and convincing their own disgruntled cadre about the law’s effectiveness.
