‘No exhibition of private parts’: Gehna Vashishth on OTT ban, defends Ektaa Kapoor

New Delhi: Gehna Vashishth, who has worked in ALTT’s Gandii Baat and Ullu’s House Arrest, supports the government ban on OTT platforms promoting soft porn but feels it is unfair to ban Ullu and ALTT.

She said, “I have worked in ALTT’s Gandii Baat and some of Ullu’s House Arrest, Me Too, and Call Centre. And I can tell you none of these shows fall in the porn category. There is no exhibition of any private parts in any of these shows.”

She added, “The other apps do make porn content, and it is important that they are banned.”

Gehna defends Ektaa Kapoor and feels it is not fair to drag ALTT, and said, “ALTT makes a lot of family content too, and Ekta Kapoor, as we all know, has made some of the best shows for television. There is a saying in Hindi: Gehu ke saath ghun bhi pista hai, and that has happened to Ullu and ALTT.”

Gehna reiterates that porn apps should be banned and said, “I do support the ban as the government is always right. When they did the demonetization, people with black money were scared, but today 80 percent of the population does digital transactions. I am sure this has been done because they have a vision and a reason to do it.”

She goes on to say, “My question is, is it limited to those apps that are big? As I know, there are quite a few apps that are serving porn, and there are thousands of girls who are sitting at home and making porn content and earning lots of money.”

Banning of porn content is bound to affect those who work in that space. Gehna is quick to answer, “If the actor has talent, he or she will find work. If they don’t have talent and these apps are promoting them, it is good they are now going to sit at home. There are so many talented actors who are sitting at home, and those with zero talent are stripping and earning money. And they say… talent doesn’t need anyone.”
