Prior to Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made a big announcement and gave good news to thousands of village court secretaries and home guard jawans. In the cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on Tuesday, 48 agendas were approved, the most important decision was to increase the salary-standard. In the cabinet meeting, it has been approved to increase the monthly honorarium of village court secretaries from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000. This increase will be applicable with the effect of 1 July 2025. At the same time, a significant increase has also been made in the duty allowance of Bihar Home Defense Corps (Home Guard) soldiers.
Home Guard gets big relief
According to the notification issued by the Home Department, the duty allowance/training allowance of the home guards of Bihar Home Defense Corps has been increased from Rs 774 to Rs 1,121 per day from each working day. This increase has been fixed as per the minimum wage of the police working in the Bihar government. Due to this, the daily income of Home Guard soldiers has increased by Rs 347.
Long demand for village court secretaries fulfilled
The village court secretary had been demanding to increase honorarium for a long time. His monthly honorarium was Rs 6,000, which has now increased to Rs 9,000. This is a 50% increase, which will prove to be a major relief for these employees. The village court secretary is considered to be the backbone of the rural justice system and his role is very important in maintaining peace in the villages.
Important steps in election context
Political analysts believe that this announcement may be the strategic move of the NDA government before the election. Village court secretaries and home guards work in rural areas and their influence is widespread. The satisfaction of these employees will not only increase administrative efficiency, but can also have a positive impact on the election results.
This decision will put an additional burden on the treasury of the state government, but the government has described it as a decision taken in public interest. According to officials, this increase will benefit about 50,000 grams of court secretaries and about 80,000 home guards. This decision will not only improve the economic condition of the employees, but will also have a positive impact in the rural economy, as this additional income will be spent directly in the local market.
