According to Nitin Gadkari, all solid waste will be used in road construction by 2027. So far 80 lakh tonnes of waste has been used. He set a target of making the Indian auto industry number 1 in the world in 5 years by promoting biofuel.
New Delhi: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said- All solid waste will be used to build roads by the end of 2027. Addressing the 120th annual session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) on Thursday, the Union Minister said – 80 lakh tonnes of waste has already been separated for building the road. He said, “Nothing is waste and no person is waste. With the right technology and leadership mindset, you can convert waste into wealth. We have decided that before 2027 ends, whatever garbage we have, which is solid waste, we are going to use it to build roads. There are 4 such mountains in Delhi; it does not look good. We have separated 80 lakh tonnes of waste and used it to build roads.
India’s automobile will be the world’s largest industry in 5 years
Praising the initiatives on biofuels and ethanol-based fuels, Gadkari said the Indian automobile industry will be the largest in the world in the next five years. At present, with a size of Rs 22 lakh crore (Rs 2.2 billion), Indian industry ranks third after US-China. In 2014, the automobile industry was the 7th largest in the world and had a total volume of Rs 14 lakh crore (Rs 1.4 billion). A few days ago, we left Japan behind. As we are using technology and innovative research to transform alternative fuels, biofuels, electric vehicles, ethanol, methanol, biodiesel, LNG, electric and hydrogen, our automobile hub India has almost all the world’s brands.”
Ethanol made from corn has provided tremendous income to farmers.
Reiterating the Centre’s call for a self-reliant India, Gadkari said, I called the people of the automobile industry and said that if you want to make a self-reliant India then you have to be number one in the world. America ranks first in the world, and its automobile industry is worth Rs 78 lakh crore (Rs 7.8 billion). China is the second largest in the world. Its automobile industry is worth Rs 49 lakh crore (Rs 4.9 billion). I believe that in 5 years our automobile industry will be number one in the world. He claimed that the move to make ethanol from maize has provided additional income of Rs 45,000 crore to farmers. When we decided to make ethanol from maize, the market price of maize was Rs 1200 per quintal. MSP was Rs 1800 per quintal. After the decision, the price of maize reached Rs 2800 per quintal.
India has achieved its target of mixing 20 percent ethanol in petrol. Earlier in September, while addressing the 2nd International Conference and Exhibition on Bioenergy and Technology here, the Union Minister had said that after meeting the target of blending 20 per cent ethanol in petrol, it is now time that India should get ready to export ethanol considering its surplus production in the country. This is the time for future development of India.
