Nithiin’s movie, Thammudu, which was produced by Raju-Shirish and directed by Sriram Venu, was released in the theatres back on July 4, 2025. The action drama was reportedly made on a budget of Rs. 75 crore, but it could only gross Rs. 6.5 crore net in India.
Critics have tagged the movie as ‘disappointing’ even though the trailer, featuring Nithiin and Sriram’s collaboration, brought positive responses. Well, on August 2, 2025, the movie was released on the OTT giant, Netflix. Now, netizens, who have already ended up watching Thammudu, revealed their share of opinions on social media.

Even though the non-theatrical releases brought Rs. 32 crore for the movie, it still faced a loss in the face of its making budget of Rs. 75 crore. As per the critics, the weak screenplay, textbook type emotional depth, and melodramatic execution caused the major blow in the movie’s outcome, which failed to hook both the audience and critics.
The movie tells the story of ‘Jai’, a national champion archer who leaves his career behind in search of his long-lost sister, ‘Laya’. His sister was a brave government officer, who had gone missing while fighting corruption. ‘Jai’ could track ‘Laya’ down, and the track unfolds hidden mysteries wrapped in lies, threats and a villain. Although the plot required emotional engagement, the slow pacing and storytelling ultimately made it dull for the viewers.

When Nithiin’s movie’s name Thammudu was revealed, the first question that arose was whether it’s a remake of 1999 film of the same name. The question had arisen due to the same name of both movies. However, let us tell you that Nithiin’s movie is a survival action thriller with a twist of siblings’ emotions, and Pawan Kalyan’s movie of the same name was a sports drama. Pawan’s movie was inspired by the famous movie, Breaking Away. While Pawan’s film proved to be a cult classic, Nithiin’s movie failed to leave a mark, making it forgettable.
