Nissan reveal X-Trail hybrid and their 3rd electric offering world wide, Juke EV

New Delhi: During Nissan’s newest ‘Vision’ global business outlook event, the carmaker unveiled two new SUVs, the third-gen Juke and the fourth-gen X-Trail. The new Juke EV comes as the brand’s third all-electric offering worldwide, with the X-Trail coming with a hybrid powertrain for the first time with the fourth-gen model.

The X-Trail and Juke, though, aren’t available in India, but both have the right mixes that could make the Indian market the next market to stop at. While the Nissan Juke EV is quite outrageous to look at, the X-Trail is still a conventional SUV that is expected to get a series hybrid powertrain and dual motors.

The Juke is known for having quite a quirky styling, and the new-gen model moves towards that pattern. It comes with quite an outrageous design with creases on almost every panel, as well as a blacked-out finish for the bonnet, roof and the back end. Other design highlights include a split-headlight configuration, asymmetrical-styled alloy wheels, C-pillar-integrated door handles and a little edgy body cladding as well.

Nissan hasn’t given many details about the Juke’s powertrains; the electric SUV rides on the same CMF-EV platform as the Leaf EV. The Juke might actually come with Leaf’s 52 kWh and 75 kWh NMC battery setups, both of which are mated with a front-mounted motor.

The X-Trail somehow feel contrastingly more conventional in design. At the front, X-Trail comes with a large blacked-out section that hosts headlights, a hexagon-patterned grille and an assortment of hexagonal DRLs. From the sides, it is quite upright and gets a lot of glass area, and the rear comes with a chunky LED taillamp and muscular bumper.

Under the hood, the new X-Trail gets Nissan’s e-POWER series hybrid configuration, with wheels being mostly driven by electric motors, and the engine is more like a generator. Nissan hasn’t given details about the specs but has confirmed that the X-Trail will come with dual motors, hinting at an AWD layout.
