Hyundai Motor India has confirmed that a new generation Grand i10 Nios will be introduced in India by 2030. The upcoming hatchback forms part of Hyundai’s broader product expansion strategy for the Indian market, with the company planning to introduce 30 new models by the end of the decade.
The confirmation was made during Hyundai’s 2026 CEO Investor Day. While the company has not disclosed specific details about the next-generation hatchback, the new model is expected to receive significant changes in terms of dimensions, equipment and powertrain options.
New Grand i10 Nios Could Grow In Size
The current Grand i10 Nios occupies an important position in Hyundai’s small-car portfolio, sitting below the i20. For the next generation, Hyundai is expected to increase the hatchback’s dimensions, potentially bringing its overall length close to the 3.95-metre mark.
Such an increase would put the Grand i10 Nios closer in size to the current i20. However, it remains unclear whether the larger Nios would eventually replace the i20 in Hyundai’s Indian hatchback line-up or whether both models would continue to coexist.
A larger footprint could also provide Hyundai with an opportunity to improve cabin space, particularly for rear passengers. The additional size may be accompanied by a more substantial equipment package as Hyundai looks to keep its entry-level hatchback competitive with increasingly feature-rich rivals.
Petrol And CNG Powertrains Expected
Hyundai has not announced the engine specifications of the new Grand i10 Nios. The hatchback is expected to retain petrol and CNG powertrain options, with the latter remaining relevant in the Indian market due to demand from both private and commercial buyers.
A CNG-equipped automatic variant could also be considered for the next generation. Automated manual transmissions have become increasingly available with CNG models, although Hyundai has not confirmed such a combination for the upcoming hatchback.
The final powertrain line-up will likely depend on emission regulations, market demand and Hyundai’s broader strategy for internal-combustion vehicles towards the end of the decade.
New Hyundai Aura Could Follow
The next generation Grand i10 Nios is also expected to provide the foundation for a replacement for the Hyundai Aura. The compact sedan shares its underpinnings and several mechanical components with the Grand i10 Nios, making a common next generation architecture a logical possibility.
A new Aura could continue to target buyers looking for a compact sedan, while also retaining its relevance in the fleet market. CNG availability is likely to remain an important consideration, particularly given the popularity of CNG vehicles among commercial operators.
However, Hyundai has not yet officially confirmed details about the next-generation Aura, so its design, powertrain options and launch timing remain unclear.
India To Remain An Export Base
The Grand i10 Nios and Aura are among Hyundai’s India-made products that are exported to international markets. The next-generation models are therefore expected to continue playing a role in Hyundai’s global strategy.
The Indian-market versions could share their core architecture and powertrains with export models, although equipment, safety specifications and feature availability are likely to vary depending on individual markets and regulatory requirements.
With the new Grand i10 Nios not expected before 2030, Hyundai has considerable time to finalise its design and engineering package. More details are likely to emerge closer to the development and testing stages.
For now, the confirmation establishes that Hyundai intends to retain a presence in the small hatchback segment beyond the current generation, even as the company expands its SUV and electric vehicle portfolio.
