Former New Zealand allrounder Doug Bracewell has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket at age 35, marking the end of an 18-year career.
Bracewell debuted for Central Districts in 2008 at 18 and earned Black Caps caps across formats by 2011, playing 28 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 20 T20Is. In his career, the pacer picked up 120 international wickets across all competitions. His standout moment came in his third Test, taking 6-40 to secure a seven-run win over Australia in Hobart.
He amassed 77 first-class matches, achieving the rare 4000 runs and 400 wickets double, with standout stats for Central Districts.
A persistent rib injury sidelined him this season, with his final outing in July at the Global Super League in Guyana. Earlier knee surgeries in 2016 and 2019 tested his resilience, yet he played for Essex, Northamptonshire, Delhi Daredevils, and Joburg Super Kings abroad.
Bracewell expressed gratitude for representing New Zealand and Central, crediting teammates and coaches. Central Districts CEO Lance Hamilton praised his loyalty and record-breaking all-round stats for the team.
Bracewell played one IPL match in his career, which came for Delhi Daredevils in the 2012 season. The New Zealand bowler picked up 3 wickets in the match, including the prized wicket of Virat Kohli. His last appearance for the Black Caps was back in 2023, in a Test match against Sri Lanka.
