Popular Vietnamese electric car manufacturer, VinFast, has big ambitions for the Indian market. The company has launched VF 6 and VF 7 in India already and is now eying for the mainstream and high-volume B Segment EV space. This is where Tata Punch EV, Nexon EV and Mahindra XEV3XO EV have been partying all along. VinFast’s stood at 1,482 units.
Now, VinFast has commenced testing second generation version of its B Segment EV as seen in the spy shots from automotive enthusiast Manas Y M who spotted it around Mahalakshmi Metro Station in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The spied EV is fully camouflaged and is called VinFast Herio Green in the home market of Vietnam and VF 5, globally.
New VinFast Sub 4m Electric SUV
If launched in India, the company will call it VF 5 and it is a sub 4m electric SUV. Dimensionally, it measures 3,967 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width, 1,579 mm in height and has a 2,514 mm wheelbase along with a 160 mm ground clearance. VinFast VF 5 may be the company’s next EV as part of their roadmap to have 5 EVs in India by 2026 end.
Where design is concerned, this is a VinFast VF 5, but not the same VF 5 currently on sale. This is their second-gen VF 5 which has not been showcased or launched anywhere. It is identifiable as a VF 5 (or Herio Green) owing to its side profile and the recognisable D Pillar design. The swooping bonnet is now a clamshell unit lending the car a more upright stance.
LED DRLs are covered, but we can see the redesigned projector headlight setup which is much sleeker in appearance. This particular test mule had steel wheels, which look like they are 16-inchers, but 17-inch alloys are likely when launched. At the rear, we can see new connected LED tail light design which gets thicker LED at the end, unlike the even LED signature in current model.
What to expect?
Rear tailgate, front and rear bumpers are completely revised too. 2nd Gen VinFast VF 5 looks much more mature and sophisticated, when compared to the current model. When compared to the swooping dashboard of current VF 5, the new dashboard is flatter and features a rectangular free-standing infotainment screen and an all-new steering wheel.
A floating-type centre console, front centre armrest can be seen too. A TFT instrument cluster, ventilated seats, a sunroof, rear AC vents and other features might be part of the package. Current model gets a 29.6 kWh or a 37.23 kWh battery options, mated to a sole FWD electric motor rated at up to 134 bhp. Promised range is 260 km and 326 km, respectively.
There was a time when VinFast only listed Herio Green as a Service Line Vehicle (commercial vehicle) for the Vietnamese market. Now, Herio Green has another name called VF 5, which the company will use in global markets where it is offered for private buyers. Limo Green and are stark examples of this strategy. Launch could happen by 2026 end.
