A host of much-awaited Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films are arriving on streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, JioHotstar and ZEE5. Whether you’re in the mood for an intense thriller, a heartfelt drama or a commercial entertainer, new releases such as Balan The Boy, Pallichattambi and Con City headline this week’s streaming line-up.
Balan: The Boy – Zee5
Balan The Boy is directed by Chidambaram S Poduval
Written by Jithu Madhavan, best known for , and directed by Chidambaram, Balan: The Boy is a Malayalam psychological mystery thriller starring Adhisheshan and Farzana Palathingal, with Tovino Thomas in a key role. The film follows a young boy’s emotional and psychological journey as he searches for his missing mother, only to uncover long-buried secrets along the way. The music is composed by Sushin Shyam. It had its market screening at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival before its theatrical release. It will stream from July 31 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
Con City – Netflix
Arjun Das plays the lead in Con City
Directed by debutant Harish Durairaj and produced under the Powerhouse Pictures banner, Con City is a Tamil crime thriller starring and Anna Ben in the lead roles, alongside Yogi Babu, Vadivukkarasi and Akhilan in supporting roles. The film follows a middle-class family whose ordinary life is thrown into turmoil after a lightning strike causes their receipt printer to mysteriously print Rs 500 currency notes, setting off a series of humorous and dramatic events. The music is composed by Sean Roldan. It will stream online from July 24.
Chinna Chinna Aasai – JioHotstar
Chinna Chinna Aasai is an emotional story
Written and directed by Varsha Vasudev, Chinna Chinna Aasai is a Malayalam romantic drama starring , Madhoo, Aparna Balamurali, Vishnu Agasthya, Kaali Venkat and Jaffer Sadiq in pivotal roles. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Varanasi, the story follows two strangers whose chance encounter gradually develops into a heartfelt bond through conversations and experiences. Featuring sincere performances, and Govind Vasantha’s soulful music, the film delivers a warm story. It will stream online from July 28.
Pallichattambi – Sony Liv
Pallichattambi stars Tovino Thomas in the lead
After a successful theatrical run, Tovino Thomas’ period action drama Pallichattambi is gearing up for its OTT debut. Directed by Dijo Jose Antony and written by S. Suresh Babu, the Malayalam film was released in cinemas in April. The makers have officially announced that Pallichattambi will begin streaming on Sony LIV from July 24. Set in Kerala in 1958, Pallichattambi follows Krishna Pillai, a carefree rowdy whose life takes a dramatic turn as he transforms into the feared Pallichattambi. The story unfolds in the hill village of Kaaniyar, where escalating tensions between the Church and communist groups shape the plot .
