British Airways has rolled out a new student travel assistance service for Indian students heading to the UK this year. The program is available until the end of October 2025 and is designed to make travel to London Heathrow smoother for students beginning their studies.
Student Travel Assistance Helpdesk
British Airways launched the Student Assistance Helpdesk at the major airport in India to help students with check-in, luggage, directions, and connecting flights, making their journey to study abroad easier and less stressful.
Where the Service is Available
The assistance service will be operational from 29 August 2025 to 31 October 2025 at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai airports, where British Airways currently runs 56 flights a week to London
What Students Get
The airline announced that it is offering a student-specific service for the first time and listed the key benefits as:
- A dedicated check-in desk at departure airports
- Help navigating airport terminals
- Guidance for flight transfers on arrival at Heathrow Terminal 5
How to Avail the Assistance Service
International students who want to use this ‘Assistance Service’ should mention it at the British Airways check-in counter. Clear signboards at the airport will guide students to the Student Assistance Helpdesk for further support.
Why British Airways Introduced It
The airline stated that many students flying to the UK are travelling overseas for the first time. The extra support is meant to ease their journey and give them confidence at every step.
Helen O’Connor, Regional General Manager for British Airways, said the goal is to make students feel comfortable from check-in to arrival. She added that the airline’s teams in India and the UK worked closely to build this service.
Rising Number of Indian Students Abroad
The launch comes as more Indian students choose to study abroad. India’s Ministry of External Affairs reported that by January 2024, over 1.33 million Indian students had enrolled in higher education abroad. The UK remains a top choice thanks to its universities and long-standing cultural ties with India.
Part of a Bigger Push
Earlier this year, British Airways also introduced a ‘Meet and Assist’ service for Indian travellers needing extra help at airports, including support in local languages. The new student-focused service is part of the airline’s wider investment in better airport facilities, digital tools, and onboard services.
