Samantha Ruth Prabhu has come under criticism on social media after promoting an AI platform at a time when concerns over deepfakes and AI-generated morphed content are growing in the film industry.
The criticism comes shortly after Jr NTR strongly reacted to an AI-generated version of the Chuttamalle song and warned of legal action against those responsible for creating and circulating objectionable content.
Several celebrities have also spoken out against the misuse of artificial intelligence.
Amid this debate, Samantha promoted ChatGPT in a social media post. The endorsement did not go down well with a section of netizens, who questioned her decision to promote an AI platform while actors and other public figures are increasingly becoming victims of deepfakes and privacy violations.
Some users also pointed to Samantha’s earlier support for sustainability and other social causes and argued that she could have used the opportunity to highlight responsible use of AI.
One user said that while AI can be extremely useful, people should also be careful about becoming too dependent on it for everyday thinking, creativity and decision-making.
The user felt that someone with Samantha’s influence could have encouraged a wider conversation about responsible AI usage.
Another user questioned whether supporting AI was appropriate when actors frequently speak out against morphed photographs and other AI-generated content.
“Actors fight every time a morphed pic comes out and still supporting AI is not ethically correct… Don’t you think?” the user wrote.
Another simply commented, “Totally disappointed that you would promote AI.”
The criticism comes after the Bombay High Court directed the removal of deepfakes and other unauthorised content allegedly misusing Samantha’s name, image, voice and other aspects of her personality.
The actor had approached the court over the alleged unauthorised use of her identity across AI platforms, e-commerce websites and digital media.
The debate, however, also highlights an important distinction between the use of generative AI tools for legitimate purposes and their misuse for creating deepfakes, morphed images or unauthorised content.
Meanwhile, reports have stated that Samantha is currently in her third trimester, with her baby expected in December 2026.
Samantha and Raj recently reportedly celebrated a traditional Seemantham ceremony at Sadhguru’s Isha Foundation in Coimbatore.
During her pregnancy, Samantha has continued sharing workout videos on social media and is also serving as a judge on MasterChef Tamil.
