Netflix Quietly Cancels Star-Studded Sci-Fi Series From the Team Behind ‘Stranger Things’ Weeks After Its Debut

Less than a month after the debut of the new  science-fiction series , the streaming service has canceled it. The show, starring the likes of  and , was executive-produced by the Stranger Things team of the  .

 debuted on Netflix on May 21. The full eight episodes of the first season dropped at once, and those behind the show suggested they had a three-season storyline arc in mind.

According to  , writers had already started working on Season 2 before news of the cancellation emerged.

Just after the debut of The Boroughs, Molina told he hoped there would be a second season.

The finale of Season 1 definitely left the door open to more chaos and mystery emerging from the retirement community that was not nearly as welcoming as it appeared.

“I would love to carry this on,” Molina told the media outlet. “I would love for this to be ongoing…We’ve got a wonderful cast. We’ve got a great premise. The sets are all there. I’d love to do more.”

Viewers took to the   subreddit upon learning of the cancellation, and people didn’t necessarily seem entirely surprised or heartbroken.

  “I loved the show but didn’t feel like a story worth telling came after the first season. It was good as is!”

“It was slightly better than most of Netflix’s extremely mediocre content, but not a show I’d be on the edge of my seat for another season. Wasted acting talent in that one,”

Before the cancellation was announced,  I really liked it for a single season binge. Interesting premise, legendary actors. I don’t think it needs to be a multi-season show.”

While most seemed to think it seemed fitting to keep The Boroughs to one season, some viewers on Reddit suggested storyline possibilities for further seasons. In response to one idea, a viewer  , “I’d watch that too! I just finished and want more.”
