Nepal gen z protests: After the anti -incumbency demonstrations and violence in Nepal, initiatives are being taken to end the political crisis. More than 5,000 youths attended a virtual meeting held to choose the next Prime Minister. In this, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki of Nepal emerged as a major choice as an interim leader.
Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah did not respond
The online discussion was focused on who should be chosen as the interim leader. Initially Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah was considered a favorite candidate. Participants reported that repeated attempts were made to contact, but they did not respond. “Since they did not pick up our phone, the discussion went to other names,” Nepali media quoted a representative of Generation Z.
Who is Sushila Karki?
72 -year -old Sushila Karki is Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice. In 2016, she was appointed by the then President Vidya Devi Bhandari on the recommendation of the constitutional council led by the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Karki was a teacher before the law joined the profession. He is identified as fearless, competent and corruption -free person. She was part of the 2006 constitutional draft committee. In 2009, he was appointed ad hoc judge of the Supreme Court. She became a permanent judge in 2010. In 2016, he was made Chief Justice.
What is Sushila Karki’s connection with India?
Sushila Karki has a special connection with India. He has educated from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). During the Supreme Court being the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Karki gave several historical decisions that further strengthened his image as a reformist. He ordered Jai Prakash Gupta to convict corruption charges. He was the first minister to go to jail on charges of corruption in Nepal.

Karki presided over sensitive matters ranging from corruption to controversial nizzar fast track project in peace missions. Nepali gave progressive decisions such as allowing women to give citizenship to their children. In 2017, his orders provoked the ruling executive. The ruling coalition in Parliament moved a motion of impeachment against him.
