What did Oli say on the birth of Lord Rama in Ayodhya?

In July 2020, the then Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had raised a controversy by claiming that Lord Ram was not an Indian but Nepali. Oli had said, “Lord Rama’s kingdom is located in the west of Birganj in Ayodhya Nepal. India has built a disputed Ayodhya.”

Oli had said that the real Ayodhya is in Thori village near Birganj in Nepal, not in Uttar Pradesh. Accusing India of “encroaching” on Nepal’s cultural heritage, Oli said,

We have a misunderstanding that Sita married Ram of India. But Rama was not an Indian, but Nepali.

This statement of Oli created a political storm. India rejected his words as baseless.

What was the Lipulekh controversy?

The Lipulekh Pass dispute is one of the most controversial border disputes between India and Nepal. It revolves around Kalapani region. Both countries disagree about the origin of the Kali River. It was defined as a boundary under the Sugauli Treaty of 1816.
