The Sports Ministry has approved Neeraj Chopra’s plan to train in Europe for 60 days. He will train with coach Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha.
This is part of his preparation for the Paris Games.
The ministry’s Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) also agreed to Vinesh Phogat’s proposal. Vinesh, an Asian Games gold medallist, will include strength coach Wayne Patrick Lombard in her international camp in Hungary from June 10 to 21.
Neeraj Chopra, Vinesh Phogat to train in Europe
Chopra, who made history by winning an Olympic track and field medal in Tokyo, will train at various European venues from May 29 to July 28. The Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) will cover his travel, lodging, meals, insurance, and local transport.
Vinesh will compete in the 50kg division in Paris. She requested assistance for Lombard’s travel and other expenses in Hungary. Vinesh will also compete in the United World Wrestling 2nd Ranking Series from June 6 to 9 in Budapest.
The MOC also approved Vinesh’s participation in the Grand Prix of Spain from July 5 to 7 in Madrid. Her support team includes physiotherapist Ashwini Jeevan Patil, sparring partner Arvind, and coach Woller Akos.
Long Jumper and Shooters’ Training Plans
Long jumper Shaili Singh’s proposal to extend her training camp in Europe until June 23 was approved. She will train in Lisbon, Paris, Athens, and Geneva with coach Bobby George.
Shotgun shooters Rajeshwari Kumari and Maheshwari Chauhan’s requests were also approved. Rajeshwari’s coach David Kostelecky will join her in Italy from June 1 to 14 for the ISSF World Cup. Maheshwari’s coach Riccardo Fillipelli will train her from May 31 to June 11, with the Lonato World Cup from June 12 to 19.
Financial Assistance for Other Athletes
Badminton player HS Prannoy’s request for financial aid was also cleared by MOC. Prannoy will engage trainer Rohan George Mathews from June 20 to July 22 in Hyderabad.
Prannoy will also use a centre offering recovery products like Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy and Red Light therapy. These therapies aid wound healing and treat skin conditions respectively.
Maisnam Meiraba and Anupama Upadhyay’s proposals for international tournaments were approved. Recurve archer Atanu Das will receive support for two months of training at Army Sports Institute, Pune, starting June 1.
Sailor Vishnu Saravanan’s request to engage physio Sarath Lal for 40 days during his Marseille camp was accepted. Para powerlifter Ashok received approval for a wheelchair.
