New Delhi: India’s Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra believes Indian cricket team star Jasprit Bumrah can excel in javelin throw. The two-time Olympic medallist and the reigning world champion was recently asked to pick one Indian cricketer who he thinks can do well in javelin throw. Neeraj has no second thoughts as he picked Bumrah.
Neeraj picked Bumrah, considering his technique as a fast bowler and his fitness. One of the best fast bowlers in the world at present, Bumrah’s explosive pace and ability to hit the right lengths consistently make him a lethal prospect to face for the best batters in the world. Neeraj believes Bumrah’s strength and fitness would have helped him dominate in javelin throw, if he was not a cricketer.
“I think it would be a fast bowler for sure. So, I think a fully fit Jasprit Bumrah will be good at it,” Neeraj told former India cricket Navjot Singh Sindhu during an interaction on Star Sports.

Neeraj, who has been in fine form so far this season, will be next seen in action at the Neeraj Chopra Classic, an event organised by the double Olympic medallist in collaboration with JSW Sports, sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Several top javelin stars from around the world, including the likes of Anderson Peters and Julian Weber, are set to take part in the competition.
Jasprit Bumrah’s workload a concern for India in England Test series
Meanwhile, Bumrah is currently playing for India in their ongoing Test series against England, in England. Bumrah was exceptional with the ball for the visitors in the recently concluded first Test in Headingley, where he picked up a fifer in England’s first innings. It was Bumrah’s 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket and 12th overseas as he equalled the legendary Kapil Dev’s record for the most Test fifers in away Test matches for India.
Bumrah failed to replicate his heroics in England’s second innings as the hosts rode on a magnificent ton from Ben Duckett to chase down the target of 371 runs and pull off a stunning five-wicket victory. Bumrah’s workload is a concern for India heading ahead of the second Test against England which is set to get underway on Wednesday, July 02.
The pacer will be playing only two of the remaining four matches in the ongoing series against England to manage his workload well. There is no confirmation on whether Bumrah will play the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham or if he will return in the third Test. Bumrah is the spearhead of India’s pace atatck in the series and is key to the team’s success in England.
