Javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra, popularly known as the Golden Boy of India, has received a big honour. For bringing glory to the country, he has been awarded the honorary title of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi wished Neeraj by putting stars in Delhi. Before this he was Subedar Major. Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in Tokyo Olympics and silver medal in Paris Olympics, has been associated with the Indian Army for the last 9 years.
Neeraj Chopra became Lieutenant Colonel
Neeraj Chopra was given the title of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army by the Indian Army on 14 May 2025 for his sports achievements, which became effective from 16 April 2025. Neeraj, who was in the Indian Army since 2016, had resigned from the post of Subedar Major in the month of May this year itself. In fact, a notification was issued by the President in May to give the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel to Neeraj, and there are rules in the army that one cannot hold two different posts simultaneously. Now he has got a new post. Let us tell you, India’s legendary cricketer is also an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army.

Let us tell you, Neeraj had joined the army as Naib Subedar on 26 August 2016. After this, due to his strong game, he was made Subedar in the year 2021. At the same time, he became Subedar Major in 2022. On this special occasion in Delhi, his father Satish Chopra, mother Saroj Devi, wife Himani and uncle Bhim Chopra were present and an atmosphere of enthusiasm was visible in his family. Apart from this, Neeraj Chopra has also been honored with Arjuna Award and Khel Ratna Award for his performance in athletics.
Disappointed in the World Championship
Neeraj Chopra was seen playing in the World Athletics Championship only last month. But his performance in this tournament was nothing special. He could cover only 84.03 meters distance in the final of javelin throw. Neeraj could not even make it to the top 6 and thus he failed to save his title in the World Athletics Championship.
