Need bail? First two rupees! SI’s bribery case in discussion in MP

In Dhar district of MP, Lokayukta caught SI Vikram Deora of Rajod police station red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10 thousand. In the land dispute case, a demand of Rs 12,000 was made in the name of bail and release of the tractor. Action against the accused under Prevention of Corruption Act.

It seems as if the story of corruption in Madhya Pradesh is writing a new chapter every day. Sometimes the same people who are responsible for maintaining law and order start weakening the system. The case reported from Dhar district is also similar, which has once again raised questions as to when will the trend of bribery in the police department stop. In a minor case of land dispute, the demand of bribe in the name of bail and release of tractor made the whole matter serious.

Bribe demanded in the name of bail and release of tractor

Sub Inspector Vikram Deora, posted at Rajod police station in Dhar district, is accused of demanding a total of Rs 12,000 from a family trapped in a land dispute to get bail and release the seized tractor. Complainant Jeevan Rathod and his uncle Munnalal Rathod had lodged a complaint at the office of Indore Lokayukta Superintendent of Police on November 27.

It was clearly stated in the complaint that SI Vikram Deora was not taking any action forward without taking bribe. Considering the seriousness of the complaint, the Lokayukta team immediately started verification.

Complaint found correct in verification, trap team ready

The Lokayukta team investigated the complaint in a confidential manner in which it was completely proved that the SI was continuously demanding bribe. After the verification report, the team made a special trap plan to catch the accused and raided Rajod police station itself.

SI and associate Ambaram caught red handed taking Rs 10,000

As soon as the complainant handed over Rs 10,000 of the fixed amount to the accused SI, the Lokayukta team arrested both of them red-handed. During this time, along with SI Vikram Deora, his associate Ambaram was also present, who was also caught by the team there.

Legal action started, questions raised again on increasing corruption in Madhya Pradesh

A case has been registered against both the accused under sections 7, 13(1)B and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (Amendment 2018). Further investigation is being conducted by the Lokayukta police.

This case of Dhar is another link in the increasing bribery in the state. The question is that when the police itself starts going beyond the scope of law, then where should the common citizen go with a complaint? The actions of the Lokayukta certainly provide relief, but the ever-increasing number of incidents is also a cause for concern.
