Chennai: Amidst ongoing debates regarding whether the ensuing administration after Tamil Nadu elections will be an AIADMK government or an NDA government, BJP National President Nitin Nabin has stated that an NDA government will be established following the elections, stirring controversy once again.
AIADMK – BJP alliance and confusion
The AIADMK and the BJP are contesting the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections jointly, with the alliance forged as early as a year ago. Since then, questions have persisted regarding whether—should the alliance emerge victorious—the resulting administration would function as an AIADMK government or as a coalition government under the NDA banner.
AIADMK leaders have consistently maintained that the AIADMK will secure the requisite majority of seats to form a government independently, asserting that the outcome will not result in an NDA administration. Conversely, BJP national leaders visiting Tamil Nadu for campaign purposes have consistently asserted that an NDA government will indeed be formed, at times refraining from explicitly mentioning the name “AIADMK.”
Nitin Nabin’s remarks
Speaking during an interview with news agency ANI, Nitin Nabin remarked that the Tamil Nadu elections would yield surprises, adding that signs of change have begun to manifest and that an NDA government will ultimately be established in the state. “It is the NDA that will form the government in Tamil Nadu; signs pointing to this outcome have already begun to emerge. The BJP is contesting in 27 constituencies across the state, and we are poised to achieve a resounding victory. The election results from Tamil Nadu will undoubtedly take you by surprise. The people will deliver a fitting retort to the DMK’s corrupt brand of politics. I reiterate: the NDA will form the government in Tamil Nadu. The definitive signs indicating that a change is imminent are clearly visible,” he stated.
Nitin Nabin about Annamalai
Responding to questions regarding Annamalai not contesting the Assembly elections, Nitin Nabin stated, “Annamalai did not contest in the Assembly elections. Consequently, some people claim that he is disgruntled; however, there is no truth to this. Annamalai did contest in the Lok Sabha elections. Even though he is not contesting in the current election, he has been actively engaged in vigorous campaigning across the entire state. He campaigned as recently as yesterday. He harbors absolutely no dissatisfaction. As the NDA, we are facing this election as a united team. In Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK serves as the principal party within our alliance. We have successfully consolidated various parties there to forge a robust coalition.”
Nitin Nabin interview on Three-Language Policy
Responding to questions regarding the Three-Language Policy and the alleged imposition of Hindi, Nitin Nabin stated, “We follow the visionary outlook of the Prime Minister. We have taken the spirit of nationalism across the entire country. At the same time, we also respect regional sentiments. We respect and encourage all cultural traditions. In West Bengal, for instance, a situation exists where High Court permission is required to conduct Durga Puja. We will encourage regional traditions. Furthermore, we will stand against any attempts at dominance.”
