India Women set a competitive score of 292 in the first innings on the back of a brilliant century by Smriti Mandhana and a couple of useful cameos by Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana. The hosts followed up their great batting performance with the ball as Indian pacers Kranti Goud and Renuka Singh Thakur dismissed openers Alyssa Healy and Georgia Voll early. While it seemed like everything was going the way of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, there was one hilarious moment where the decision did not end up in their favor.
The incident took place in the seventh over, which was bowled by Kranti Goud, who bowled two brilliant deliveries at the start to Beth Mooney. The third delivery was bowled down the legside, and the Aussie batter attempted to flick the ball but ended up tickling it through to the keeper. This led the bowler and the Indian fielders to appeal continuously until the umpire smiled and signalled that Richa Ghosh had dropped the catch. Ghosh also signalled to the players that she hadn’t completed the take as well. While it was a slightly embarrassing moment for the hosts, the umpire could not take the smile off her face after the incident.
The fans were in splits as the Indian team continued to appeal
