The Consumer Department has done excellent work regarding consumer rights in the current financial year. The special thing is that with the help of National Consumer Helpline, consumers have got refund worth crores of rupees. Most of the cases that came to the consumer helpline were settled without going to the commission. So that consumers do not have to wait for their problems for a long time. Solution of 79,521 consumer complaints
The government said on Tuesday that the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has resolved 79,521 consumer complaints in 31 sectors till January and provided refunds of Rs 52 crore. An official statement said these refunds were obtained before the litigation, allowing consumers to get timely relief without having to approach consumer commissions. NCH, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, plays an important role in providing effective, accessible and timely grievance redressal under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. It works through a convergence model, wherein complaints are sent digitally to companies for resolution within stipulated time frame, along with continuous monitoring and consumer feedback tracking.
Most complaints came from e-commerce sector
The highest number of complaints were registered in the e-commerce sector, numbering 47,743, resulting in refunds of over Rs 36 crore. After this, Travel and Tourism was the tourism sector, where refund facility of more than Rs 4 crore was provided through the helpline. The statement further said that refund related complaints in the e-commerce sector were received from across the country, including metros as well as remote areas, underscoring the wide reach and accessibility of NCH as a pan-India consumer complaint platform.
