In a recent episode of The Big Podcast, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal takes aim at the Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum’s Hall of Fame rumours.
The renowned former player voiced his scepticism over the requirements for induction into the Hall of Fame, arguing that they had loosened in recent years. O’Neal spoke candidly about the continuing debates about Tatum’s possible admission into the Hall of Fame throughout the show. O’Neal acknowledged Tatum’s accomplishments, such as being named to the All-Star team and winning a championship, but he maintained that these do not automatically make him eligible for such an honour at this point in his career. “Have you ever seen the movie Ocean’s Thirteen? I’m going to break into the Hall of Fame and take all my stuff out. Mother***ers are just throwing people in there now” he said.Former NBA player Brandon Jennings added to the conversation by pointing up Tatum’s stellar record. Jennings noted that although Tatum’s accomplishments are admirable, there is still opportunity for more given that he is now in his twenties. Referencing Isiah Thomas’s perspective on the subject, O’Neal further emphasized the differences between the various forms of Hall of Fame honors. “Isiah Thomas said it best: There are two Hall of Fames. There’s a bad mother**ker Hall of Fame, and there’s a Basketball Hall of Fame. So, which Hall of Fame is he in?” he stated.Tatum’s possible induction into the Hall of Fame is still a topic of discussion among both fans and experts. While some contend that his recent achievements merit attention, others-including O’Neal-advise against drawing hasty conclusions about his legacy. Tatum’s performance during the NBA 2025 season will probably have a significant impact on how the public views his chances of being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
