Navratri 2025: Sharadiya Navratri has special significance in Hinduism. This nine-day festival is known for the practice and worship of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. In Navratri, devotees fast and worship the mother and wish for happiness, prosperity and peace. But many times people are unable to keep the first fast due to circumstances.
In the year 2025, Sharadiya Navratri has started from 22 September. The first fast is kept on the Pratipada date of the Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. If for some reason you cannot keep the first fast of Navratri, then know the rules of the fast.
Remedy in the event of not being able to keep the first fast
According to the scriptures, if the first fast of Navratri is left out for some reason, then you can keep a fast on the last day i.e. Navami or Ashtami.
On the last day, worshiping Maa Durga and observing the fast gives equal auspicious results.
By keeping a fast on this day, the grace of Mother Durga is attained and the lack of fasting is fulfilled.
Last fast rules
- Take a resolution in the morning and take a pledge to take a vow in front of Goddess Durga and keep the mind pure.
- Take satvic food during the fast, abstain food, meat, garlic-onion and only eat fruit or fast.
- Duly worship Maa Durga, light a unbroken light in worship, recite Durga Saptashati or Goddess Kavach.
- Worship Virgo, it is considered particularly fruitful to feed Ashtami or Navami to the girls and seek their blessings.
- Offer donations and bhog, offer offerings, fruits and sweets and donate it to the needy.
Recognition in scriptures
According to religious texts, if a person cannot keep the entire Navratri fast, then at least first and last fast must be done. If the first fast is not possible, then only the last fast also gives auspicious results.
