Navpatrika Puja 2025: There is a tradition of worshiping the nine forms of Maa Durga in Navratri. One of these is the unique and ancient legislation is the Navpati Pujan. Its importance is considered to be the most important in West Bengal, Assam and Bihar-Odisha, but nowadays people across the country have started doing it with reverence. It is also called the worship of Navpatra Pujan or Kulkayini Mata. In West Bengal, it is especially called Kalabau Puja.

“Navpatrika” means a group of nine leaves. Religious belief is that these nine leaves are a symbol of the nine forms of Maa Durga. These leaves are collected and wrapped in yellow cloth with banana plant and is considered to be the lively form of the goddess. It is worshiped by installing it in a temple or puja pandal.

When is the newly verse worship?
The time of worshiping Navpatrika is special during Navratri. In West Bengal and Assam, it is done on Saptami Tithi. This year Saptami is on 29 September 2025, Monday. At the same time, it is also done on the day of Mahashtami or Mahanavami in other places. On this day, along with the worship of Maa Durga, the Navpatika is also worshiped as a god.
How is the newly verse worship?
Nine leaves are brought in the morning after bathing.
All these leaves are tied in yellow cloth with banana plant.
It is considered as the form of Goddess Durga and installed at the place of worship.
Incense, lamps, chants and naivedya are offered and worshiped.
Devotees bow to this and receive blessings of prosperity and power from the mother.

Life goes on from them and in these, it is considered to be the abode of the divinity of the Goddess. In West Bengal it is called Kalabau Puja and its importance is the most important for farmers. It is believed that good yield is obtained from this worship and there is prosperity in the fields and barns throughout the year. While this special legislation of Navratri brings spiritual peace, prosperity, health and happiness are also believed in life, hence the importance of Navpatrika Pujan during Durga Puja in eastern India is considered paramount.
