Former cricketer and commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu named Indian veteran Rohit Sharma as the captain of his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 team of the tournament.
The announcement was made on his YouTube channel after the conclusion of the 18th edition of the IPL.
The tournament wrapped up on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted the prestigious trophy for the first time in their history.
Sidhu expressed his admiration for Rohit’s leadership and legacy while highlighting his five IPL titles, one T20 World Cup, and one Champions Trophy victory. He emphasized that once Rohit found his form, the Mumbai Indians (MI) looked like a completely different side. He also termed Rohit and Virat Kohli as the best openers in the white-ball format, pointing out their experience at the top of the order.
Rohit got into form with a 70-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 23. He proved himself vital as he struck another half-century against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 1, helping the five-time champions secure a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs later on.
In the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Mullanpur on May 30, the Indian legend delivered a match-winning performance, scoring 81 runs to take MI into Qualifier 2. Despite his efforts, MI fell short in the Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad on June 1.
Rohit concluded his campaign with 418 runs in 15 innings at an impressive strike rate of 149.28, proving his value as a big-match player.
