Navi Mumbai to get 1L-capacity cricket stadium, India’s second largest

In a major boost to India’s sporting infrastructure, Navi Mumbai is reportedly all set to host a state-of-the-art cricket stadium with a seating capacity of 1,00,000, making it the second-largest in the country after the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

The ambitious project is being spearheaded by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) in collaboration with the Maharashtra government. The proposed stadium will come up in the rapidly developing Navi Mumbai region, which is emerging as a key urban and infrastructure hub due to its proximity to the upcoming international airport and strong connectivity to Mumbai.

According to officials, the stadium will be among the largest cricket venues in the world, with modern design and world-class facilities aimed at enhancing both player performance and spectator experience. The project is currently in the planning stage, with discussions underway between MCA authorities and planning agencies, including CIDCO, regarding land allocation and design framework.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to significantly elevate Maharashtra’s status in the global cricketing landscape. It will complement existing venues such as Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, enabling the region to host high-profile international matches, IPL fixtures, and potentially major ICC tournaments.

The project is also likely to contribute to the local economy by boosting tourism, generating employment, and promoting sports development in the region. The development reflects India’s growing focus on building world-class sports infrastructure, as the country continues to strengthen its position as a global cricket powerhouse.
