Navi Mumbai chaos: Speeding Scorpio runs over woman, 19-year-old driver detained

New Delhi: In a shocking incident in Navi Mumbai, a 19-year-old driving a speeding Scorpio rammed into a woman and several other vehicles standing nearby after he lost control. He dragged her under the vehicle, but she got seriously injured and was rushed to the MGM Hospital.

The accident took place in the Arranger Corner area of Sector 8, Belapur. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which shows the woman was peacefully walking along the roadside before the speeding Scorpio struck her from behind, dragging her under the car and going on to hit a two-wheeler, an autorickshaw, and several cars parked nearby. The victim is identified as Mohini Popat Shinde.

In the incident, three to four vehicles were heavily damaged and triggered panic in the area. Police have identified the occupants of the vehicle as Akash Chandrakant Kamble (26) and Vikram Gangadhar Kamble (19), who are residents of Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar in Sector 8. As per the police information, Vikram Kamble was driving the car at the time of the incident.

Police register case

Senior police inspector Arun Pawar said, “The victim sustained serious injuries but is currently stable and undergoing treatment. A case has been registered against the accused, and both individuals were taken into custody and later served with a notice as per procedure.”

He added that they have registered a case against the accused under Sections 281, 125(a)(b), and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is ongoing.
