Naslen’s Mollywood Times Faces CBFC Trouble? Here’s What We Know

Premalu star Naslen’s latest film, Mollywood Times, has landed in controversy over its certification process. Reports suggest that the version screened in theatres may differ from the copy submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for approval. The issue has reportedly drawn the attention of the certification body, which is currently gathering information before deciding its next course of action. While no official statement has been issued by the CBFC, the report has left fans wondering about the film’s theatrical run. The film, directed by Abhinav Sunder Nayak, continues to receive positive audience feedback despite the controversy.

What Created the Controversy?

According to report on Manorama Onlinewebsite, the version of   Mollywood Times submitted to the CBFC for certification allegedly contained muted expletives. However, audiences who watched the film in theatres reportedly heard the same words without those modifications. The alleged difference has raised questions about whether the theatrical version differed from the one that was approved by the certification board.

Reports indicate that the CBFC is collecting evidence and reviewing the issue. If the review is found through an official examination, it could amount to a violation of certification rules. A notice may reportedly be issued to the producer once the review process is completed, though no formal action has been announced so far.

Could There Be Legal Consequences?

Under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, violations related to certified film versions can attract penalties. Reports suggest that if authorities determine that a breach has occurred, legal action could be initiated against the producer under the relevant provisions of the law.

The film was originally cleared with a UA13+ certificate. As of now, there is no clear report that the this will be changed or that a fresh certification process will be required. Meanwhile, Film Producers Association president B Rakesh has reportedly said that the organisation has not received any complaints regarding the issue.
