Gujarat Police has launched an AI tool named NARIT AI, which will make investigation of NDPS cases faster and accurate. This tool analyzes the FIR and gives legal suggestions, which will strengthen the investigation and increase the conviction rate.
Gandhinagar. Gujarat Police has adopted a zero tolerance policy to crack down on narcotics crimes in the state. In this direction, ‘Narcotics Analysis and AI-Based Investigation Tool’ i.e. NARIT AI has been launched. The main objective of this tool is to make the investigation of drug related cases faster and accurate, so that it becomes easier to punish the accused in the court.
What is NARIT AI? RAG based smart system
NARIT AI is an AI system based on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) technology. This tool helps investigating officers in understanding and solving complex cases under the NDPS Act. The system integrates case law, legal provisions and investigation processes to provide real-time analysis and legal advice.
AI tool being used by police for the first time in India
This is the first AI tool of its kind to be implemented by any state police. It has been developed by Western Railway Police, Vadodara in collaboration with a Mumbai-based AI startup company.
Harsh Sanghvi’s statement: Commitment to end drug network
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that the Gujarat government is fully committed to ending drug related crimes. He said that with the help of technology, investigation will be strengthened and strict action will be taken against criminals.
System developed under the guidance of senior officials
This application is for DGP K.L.N. Rao and has been prepared under the guidance of Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot. This was initiated by Vadodara Superintendent of Police Abhay Soni.
How will NARIT AI tool help in investigation?
To use this tool, the police officer must first upload the FIR into the system. after this:
- The system will analyze the case completely
- will identify strong and weak aspects
- will provide necessary legal advice
- Will help in deciding the direction of investigation
This tool will make investigation more systematic and effective.
Conviction rate will increase in NDPS cases
It has often been seen that despite having evidence, the accused get saved due to procedural mistakes. This AI tool will reduce such mistakes and help in increasing the conviction rate in NDPS cases.
Accurate analysis based on legal data and case law
This system has been prepared on the basis of the decisions of the Supreme Court and High Court, NDPS Act 1985, BNS, BNSS and Indian Evidence Act. Only certified data is used in this, due to which the possibility of ‘AI Hallucination’ i.e. wrong information is greatly reduced.
Will give suggestions in court trial also
This application is not limited to just investigation but also helps in court trials:
- Estimate of possible defense arguments
- Legal suggestions for their answers
- Ways to strengthen the case
This will help the police to win the case.
AI technology will give new strength to investigation
This tool will work like a ‘force multiplier’, so that every police officer will be able to investigate with the correct procedure. This will make investigation fast, accurate and effective.
