The Women Safety Index 2025 report has been considered the safest city for women as Kohima, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Aizawl, Gangtok, Itanagar and Mumbai. Based on the survey of 12,770 women from 31 cities, Patna ranks at the bottom of this report.
Safe Indian Cities 2025: Nagaland’s Kohima is the city of Kohima at number one in India in terms of safety of women. This is followed by Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Aizawl, Gangtok, Itanagar and Mumbai. According to NARI (National Annual Report & Index on Women’s Safety) 2025, the cities mentioned above have emerged as the safest place for women. At the same time, Patna, Jaipur, Faridabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Srinagar and Ranchi are at the bottom.
The NARI 2025 report was released on Thursday. For this, survey was conducted in 31 cities. 12,770 women participated in it. The national security score was kept at 65 percent in the survey. Cities were divided into “quite up”, “up”, “on”, “down” or “quite down” into benchmarks from this standard.
Kohima leads in women’s safety
Kohima and other cities who got a good rank were seen to be less than female and male. Women get equal opportunities for participation. There were police system and women-friendly infrastructure. On the other hand, the performance of cities like Patna and Jaipur was poor due to lack of weak institutional reaction, patriarchal norms and urban infrastructure.
The report said, “Kohima, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Aizawl, Gangtok, Etanagar, Mumbai are at the forefront of the national security rankings. These cities have got good marks due to high gender equality, infrastructure, police system or civilian participation. At the same time, Ranchi, Srinagar, Kolkata, Delhi, Faridabad, Patna and Jaipur have got the lowest number. The structures are due to patriarchal norms or weak institutional accountability. “
6 out of 10 women consider themselves safe in their city
6 out of the 10 women in the survey felt themselves “safe” in their city, but 40 percent still considered themselves “not so safe” or “unsafe”. It turned out that the spirit of being safe in the night, especially in public transport and entertainment sites, has decreased. Educational institutions (86 percent) are especially safe in daylight, but security is low at night or outside the premises.
About 91 percent of the women talked about safety, but about half of them were not clear to women whether POSH (prevention of sexual harassment) at their workplace. The women who said that this policy is at their workplace, they usually considered it effective. One-fourth of the women said that they have confidence in the authorities for effective action on security related complaints. 69 percent said that the current security efforts are somewhat enough, while more than 30 percent said that there is a shortage.
