New Delhi: Asian Cricket Council as well as Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman Mohsin Naqvi has offered hand over of the Asia Cup trophy to India at an event in Dubai on November 10.
The date and time were proposed after correspondence between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the ACC, reports Telecom Asia Sport.
“There was a series of letters exchanged with the BCCI, and the ACC has conveyed to them that we are ready to host Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his players with BCCI official Rajiv Shukla to take the trophy in a ceremony on November 10 in Dubai,” Naqvi said in Karachi on Tuesday.
India had refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister, who insisted on handing over the trophy personally to the winning team.
But after nearly an hour of standstill with both parties not budging from their stand, Naqvi ordered the trophy to be taken away from the Dubai stadium.
The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, then celebrated without the trophy on the ground, leading to reports that suggested that the BCCI mulled approaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the episode at its Board meeting in Dubai from November 4-7.
“The ACC has written to the BCCI that a ceremony can be held in Dubai on November 10. Bring your captain and players and receive the trophy from me,” Naqvi said, as per www.telecomasia.net.
Acrimony
India and Pakistan were involved in bitter acrimony throughout the Asia Cup, with the Indian players refusing to shake hands with their Pakistan counterparts in all the three matches that they played against each other in the tournament.
India won all the three matches, while dedicating the first win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, coping a 30 percent fine from the ICC.
Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was also fined 30 percent for display of political slogans in the second match while opener Sahibzada Farhan was let off with a warning for his gun-firing celebration with the bat in the second game.
