Naman Shaw’s Karva Chauth Journey: From Kolkata Curiosity to Mumbai Celebrations

Television actor Naman Shaw recently shared his evolving understanding of Karva Chauth, a festival he largely encountered through Hindi films during his childhood in Kolkata.

The tradition, not widely observed in his hometown, became a personal experience only after his move to Mumbai.

Shaw revealed that befriending individuals from North India, particularly Punjabis, in Mumbai, offered him a closer look at the vibrant celebrations of Karva Chauth. He expressed his appreciation for such festivals, stating, “I think festivals like Karva Chauth are beautiful because they celebrate love, commitment, and the little things that keep a relationship strong.” He emphasized that relationships are built on mutual understanding and support, not just grand gestures.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Shaw noted a significant shift in his perspective after marriage. Having performed Karva Chauth scenes on screen multiple times, celebrating it in real life with his wife, Nehaa Mishra, was a distinctly different and profound experience. The couple has a son named Kriivaan.

Shaw also observed how the festival’s celebration has transformed over the years. He feels that previously, Karva Chauth was a more intimate, family-oriented affair focused on faith and personal connection. However, he believes that with the rise of social media, the emphasis has sometimes shifted towards outward display, dressing up, and photo opportunities rather than the intrinsic meaning of the bond.

He prefers simpler celebrations, where the focus remains on the couple’s shared feelings and expression of love. Naman Shaw is known for his roles in popular shows like ‘Kasamh Se’, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, and ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’.
