Now, in an interview, the actor has opened up on the difficulties he faced during the shooting of this film and also talked about his co-star’s casting and challenges.

Recently, during an interview session with Lallantop, the actor had revealed that many A-list actresses, including Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, had refused this project of Yash Raj Films. Later, producer Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya decided to cast Fatima Sana Shaikh in the film. For the unversed, Fatima Sana Shaikh, who played the role of Aamir Khan’s daughter in Nitesh Tiwari’s blockbuster ‘Dangal’, was seen in the role of Aamir Khan’s lover in the film Thugs of Hindostan.
The Director Refused To Film Love Angle
Aamir Khan further told that the director said, “We will not make any romantic track between you and her because she was your daughter in ‘Dangal’. How can she play the role of your girlfriend here? The audience will reject it.” To which Aamir replied, “main in sab baaton par vishvaas nahin karta. main vaastav men uska pitaa nahin hoon, na hi main vaastav men uska premi hoon. hum ek film banaa rahe hain bhai.”
Aamir further cited the example of veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Waheeda Rehman, who have played mother-son and lover in films. He also said, “The audience is not so stupid that they will mistake him for a real father. If we say so, then we are underestimating our audience.”

Globally, the film made between Rs 202.38 crore ($27.31 million) and Rs 211.98 crore ($29 million) during its opening weekend, and it earned Rs 238.4 crore ($32 million) in its first week. By November 26, 2018, the film had grossed Rs262.8 crore ($35.47 million) worldwide.
As of December 31, 2018, Thugs of Hindostan had grossed Rs 320 crore ($43 million) at the global box office. However, the box office revenue fell sharply after the poor reviews, and the film only made Rs 145 crore in India after 11 days. This led to significant losses for theater owners, who requested refunds from the sub-distributor of Yash Raj Films.
