‘My Parents Taught Me To Think Before I Speak’: R Ashwin Stuns Virender Sehwag In Epic IPL Banter

India great Virender Sehwagand R Ashwin were involved in an argument during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ashwin was making his Hindi commentary debut for the official broadcaster when Sehwag asked him to speak from the heart, and not with logic and careful thinking. Ashwin, however, responded saying that his parents taught him to always think before he speaks.

“Aaj yaha par dil ki baat kiya jayega, na ki soch samajh kar baat kiya jayega,” said Virender Sehwag (Today, we will speak from the heart, not with logic or careful thinking). However, Ravichandran Ashwin responded saying, “Mere parents ne abhi tak jo sikhaya tha, aap uska ulta bata rahe hai. Mere parents ne bataya hai soch samajh kar bolna chahiye, bina soche kuchh nahi bolna chahiye.” (My parents have always taught me to think before I speak and never say anything without thinking first, but you’re telling me the complete opposite).

Sehwag then took a funny jibe at Ashwin, who runs a YouTube channel with a heavy fan following, and said that some people think before speaking because they are scared they might lose followers if they say something wrong. “Hota hai kuch log soch samajh kar bolte hai ki is player ke jyada fan hai… agar galat bol diya to followers ghat jayenge, achchha bol diya to badh jayenge. (Some people deliberately think before speaking. They say, ‘This player has more fans…’ If I speak negatively about him, my followers will decrease. If I speak positively, my followers will increase.”
