We all include oil in our diet in some way or the other. It enhances the taste of food and also works to provide energy to the body. Different types of oils are used in every house.
In which mustard oil and refined oil are very common. Whereas in some houses olive oil and peanut oil are used. But the question is which oil among mustard oil, groundnut oil and refined is less harmful to health. Here we are going to tell you which of these three oils is less harmful.
1. Mustard Oil
Mustard oil is considered very good for the heart and body in both Ayurveda and modern science. It contains the right balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. It helps in controlling cholesterol and reduces the fat accumulated in the veins. It contains glucosinolate, which helps in protecting the body from infection. It has a high smoking point, so it is safe for cooking (deep frying).
2. Groundnut/Peanut Oil
If you don’t like the pungent smell of mustard oil, peanut oil is a great alternative. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, which is good for the skin and heart. It contains high amounts of “good fat” which help in reducing bad cholesterol in the body. It balances the taste of food and remains stable even for frying.
3. Refined Oil
Refined oil is considered the least safe of these three. To make it, very high temperatures and chemicals are used, which destroys the natural nutrients of the oil. Refined oil can increase inflammation in the body, which later causes joint pain and heart diseases. Repeated heating increases the possibility of trans fat formation in it.
AIIMS doctor told which oil is best?
Dr. Amarinder Singh Malhi of AIIMS says that mustard oil causes the least harm to the body. Always use “raw” (cold pressed) oil. He said that the best way for the body is to alternate the use of oils (like mustard oil one month and peanut or sesame oil the next month), so that the body keeps getting all the essential fatty acids. Along with this, he also said that refined oil should be used sparingly.
