Tesla, the company’s most rich man, the world’s most rich man, finally stepped into India. Tesla’s first showroom has opened in Mumbai, and the company has launched its famous electric car model Y in India. But people are surprised to see the prices of this vehicle and are also expressing anger on social media. The reason is the huge tax on Tesla’s cars in India, due to which the price of 27 lakh cars is reaching 60 lakhs.
Why Tesla’s cars so expensive?
Tesla has introduced its model Y car in two variants. According to Tesla’s Indian website, the price of one model is Rs 59.89 lakh and the other is Rs 67.89 lakh. Now after listening to these prices, the head of many people bounced, because in America, this car is available for about 33 lakh rupees with tax. Then why so expensive in India? The answer is- tax!
Actually, Tesla is not yet making its vehicles in India. These cars are made in China and are coming to India after importing from there. Electric vehicles in India are charged 70 percent import duty. Apart from this, 30 percent luxury tax also has to be paid. This is the reason that about half of the car price is going to the treasury of the government in the form of tax.

Tesla became ‘tax-la’ for India!
People are taking a lot of anger on social media about Tesla’s prices and tax. Many users jokingly named Tesla to ‘Tax-La’. One user wrote, “Buying Tesla model Y in India means giving 27 lakhs to the company and 33 lakh tax to the government. If this tax is not looted, what else is there?”
Another user took a pinch and said, “More money is going on tax than Tesla’s car. It should be called ‘tax-la’, not Tesla.”
Many people are also saying that until Tesla starts making its vehicles or assembled at least, its prices will remain out of the reach of the common man. One user wrote, “The price of Tesla model Y is double due to import duty and tax. Apart from this, road tax, insurance, and GST will also be imposed. If production does not start in India, Tesla will not get success here.”
Tesla is not easy for Tesla in India
Alan Musk’s Tesla has had big dreams in India, but due to prices and tax, he may face challenges initially. Experts say that if Tesla set up a manufacturing unit in India, then not only the price of cars will be low, but also will also reduce import duty. With this, Tesla vehicles can reach more people.
